Opportunity to Comment on X12N 837 Health Care Service Data Reporting Guide
Are you an implementer or interested in the X12N 837 Health Care Service Data Reporting Guide? The standard setting body, X12N will be taking public comments on the 837 Health Care Service Data Reporting Guide this fall, as part of the updates for the Accredited Standards Committee (ASC) X12N 7030 Technical Reports. The Reporting Guide was specifically established for public health as a tool to assist in collecting data compatible with the institutional claims (837I). It is now an official “standard” for insurers and providers—giving public health a guide as to how to request data from those entities that supports the electronic transfer of health care systems data for reporting purposes to local, State, and Federal agencies that utilize the data for monitoring utilization rates, assessing patterns of health care quality and access, and other purposes required by legislative and regulatory mandates. Hospital Discharge data collectors, already using the 837 Institutional Claim, may be familiar with content in the 837 Reporting Guide, such as: race and ethnicity coding, mother’s medical record number, and present on admission. There are many other areas of content in the reporting guide as well. For those using abstracts from the UB-04, it is also relevant in terms of framing the content coding structures for the elements you collect.
The Public Comment period is now set for:
* 007030X326 Health Care Service: Data Reporting (837R)
* Cycle 4: December 1, 2016 through March 1, 2017
