The mission of the Division of Environmental Health (EH) is to track, protect and reduce incidence of illness and injury caused by environmental health hazards, reduce racial and economic inequities in exposure and environmental health outcomes, and promote the health of all New Yorkers. EH offers services, conducts surveillance and research, and promotes and evaluates policies through seven Bureaus: Division Management, Regulatory and External Affairs, Child Care, Food Safety & Community Sanitation, Environmental Disease and Injury Prevention, Environmental Sciences and Engineering, Veterinary and Pest Control Services, and Environmental Surveillance and Policy. EH also encompasses the NYC Poison Control Center and the NYC Health Academy, and oversees the city’s animal shelter system.
