The Betsy Lehman Center for Patient Safety and Medical Error Reduction (BLC) is seeking a seasoned researcher to steward the Center’s developing program of research and analysis of patient safety in Massachusetts. The Director of Research and Analysis will spearhead BLC’s analytic efforts to better understand and track the state of patient safety in Massachusetts. The preferred candidate is a proven leader with the experience and drive to push an ambitious research agenda for policy change.
The BLC was re-established by Chapter 224 of the Acts of 2012, An Act Improving the Quality of Health Care and reducing Costs through Increased Transparency, Efficiency and Innovation, as an independent state agency supported by the Center for Health Information and Analysis (CHIA). It has a broad mandate to advance patient safety in Massachusetts through research, dissemination, and provider and public engagement.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master degree in social sciences, public policy, public health, or quantitative field required; Ph.D. preferred
- Experience in the health care sector required; experience in a health care delivery organization preferred Experience in both quantitative and qualitative methods
- Strong analytic skills and advanced use of statistical analysis software
- Inquisitiveness and originality in thinking; ability to probe, approach problems creatively
- Ability to clearly interpret, present and communicate findings orally and in writing
- Management experience; willingness to train and support direct reports
- Ability and desire to set priorities and meet deadlines in a fluid, “start-up” work environment
- Strong judgement and discretion; commitment to strictly adhere to state policies governing confidential data
- Collaborative work ethic; team-approach to strategic decision-making
- Energetic interest in BLC’s mission and work
