Duties:
The intern will meet with Birth Defects Center staff for at least one hour/week to learn about the work of the Birth Defects Center (surveillance and research) and support the staff in its daily activities. An epidemiologist will provide mentorship and guidance.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Help write code for the development of a congenital heart defects surveillance system using a variety of data sources.
- Help with data cleaning, labeling and formatting of an analytic dataset.
- Document programs and produce codebooks for datasets.
- Help with other data-related tasks and programming as need.
Preferred Qualifications:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- MPH graduate candidate with a concentration in Epidemiology
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Access;
- Proficiency in SAS 9.3 at an intermediate level, including macros, SQL, arrays, and merges;
- Data management/ data cleaning experience with at least some “real world” (e.g. not classroom) data sets;
- At least some previous experience with:
o Linking multiple databases and deduplicating for unique records;
o Data transformations and mapping to various file types.
o Disease surveillance methods and congenital heart defects diagnostic coding.
- At least some training in medical claims billing data, including Medicare and Medicaid
- Human subjects certification
